Alt Gravity Quilt

I'm a little behind on posting this, but here are some close ups of my Alt Gravity quilt that won a couple ribbons at last years Austin Area Quilt Guild show, including Show Chair's Choice.  This quilt was based on Jaybird Quilts Gravity pattern.  I really enjoyed making the blocks, but decided on an alternative layout and background fabric for it.  I had a pack of low volume newsprint fabrics in my stash for quite some time, and when I placed them next to the bright colors of the Gravity blocks, knew I had found their purpose.  I love the way the quilt turned out.  

Claire's Glam Clam Quilt

The layout of Claire's Glam Clam quilt inspired the design of the quilting. I used the low volume clams to create a continuous quilting pattern that hides behind colorful clams. It was so much fun to quilt this and I'm in love with the way it turned out.

 

Mary's Quilt - UPDATE

I'm so excited to announce that Mary's 'Black Stars' quilt won 1st Place in the Modern Category at the Georgetown Quilt and Stitched show over the weekend.  Mary did such an amazing job designing and piecing this quilt, it made it such a pleasure to quilt! Congrats, Mary!

Heather's Quilt

Heather pieced this amazing large scale quilt!  I loved the idea of taking patterns I would normally use on an heirloom quilt and blow them up in scale.  I really love how it turned out! 

Mary's Quilt

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this quilt!  It was such fun to work on.  Mary's amazing piecing job made this a great candidate for heirloom quilting.

Jane's Quilt

Here is a fantastically pieced sampler quilt from Jane.  There was lots of opportunity for heirloom quilting in the yellow background.  It turned out lovely.

  

Teacher Appreciation Time

The end of the school year brings the end of my daughter's time in pre-school.  I made these two quilts for her amazing teachers for all the work they've done preparing her for the big move to Kindergarten next year.  The pattern is based on Elizabeth Hartman's Fancy forest pattern.  I quilted them both with a wood theme - one a horizontal wood-grain pattern and the other a cross-grain pattern.  

Dawn's Applique Quilt

It was such fun to quilt this beautiful quilt made by Dawn.  I love the mix of feathers, crosshatch, and curves.  It turned out so lovely.

Ida's Quilt

Straight lines look great on the Violet Craft animal patterns. This paper-pieced giraffe is complimented by unevenly spaced horizontal lines.

Three Sisters Quilts

If you ever wondered what impact quilting makes on a quilt, here is a great set of examples.  These quilts were for three sisters, made with the same fabric line and the same espresso linen background fabric.

Heather's Quilt

Love, love, love this quilt top pieced by Heather.  I digitized a concentric circle edge-to-edge pattern that complimented the border fabric.  

Mitzi's Locket Quilt

Mitzi pieced this amazing quilt as a wedding gift for her cousin.  She used this free locket quilt pattern featured on Fat Quarter Shop.

I wanted to keep the look of the quilt elegant and sophisticated.  I outlined nearly every part of the quilt with 1/4 inch lines to achieve this feel and used what I call 'chubby loops' to fill in the white background.

The squares in the center of the lockets really spoke to me, so I repeated them throughout the quilting.

Burgoyne's Surround

Recently I've been doing a slew of custom quilts.  This quilt kicked it all off.  I had a lot of fun doing.  I wanted to keep the feel of the quilt traditional, but give it a bit of a modern touch as well.

Cindy did a beautiful job piecing this quilt.  She used her low volumes in the background and a pop of color for the lines and circles. I used 70/30 Quilters Dream batting as a base layer and  Dream Wool on the top to make it all pop even more.

On the back Cindy used this beautiful 55" essex linen which gave the quilt a nice weight.  I've had several customers use this lately on their backs and they tell me it's nice and soft after a couple of washes.

Cathy's Charity Quilt

Cathy paper pieced the kites on this beautiful quilt she made for a charity auction for CASA.  The highest bid came in at $950...amazing! I used this fantastic Irish Swirls wind pattern.

Peggy's Pinwheel

Peggy wanted the pinwheels on this quilt to stand out.  I digitized these curves to give it lots of movement as well.  

Cathy's Picnic Quilt

Love this top Cathy put together for her daughters for family outings and picnics!  I kept the feel very geometric, while adding some curves with the loops and feathers.

Gypsy Wife Quilt

The modern curve quilting really compliments his Gypsy Wife patten pieced by Dana.
